Open Question: Hawaii statue of limitations on obtaining judgments regarding food stamps?
I physically move from Hawaii 2003 to california and then to Ohio in January 1994. I am on ssi since 2001 and was on food stamps in Ohio since may 2001. I moved back to Hawaii in may 2009 and a bill started to arrive stating I owed $9000 in food stamps to Hawaii via a judgment rendered when I was not living in Hawaii, was never served nor aware of any lawsuit but receded Ohio food stamps during same time. I do not look how I could be rendered a judgment against me in absentia. I have no money for food and received food stamps in Ohio the whole time, am considered disabled and never used a untrue SSA number. How can I find out about this? A court judgment was rendered against me in absentia.

Open Question: How much should I save for a 2010 Kawasaki Ninja 250r?
I'm 20 years old and have a credit score a little over 700. I'm hoping this would be able to go on my possess credit instead of having a co-signer. MSRP for the bike as of right now is $3,999, however I live in Hawaii so I'd assume there to be some nice of import fees as well. I was hoping to finance (still debating if I should finance through the dealership or the bank; advice would be wonderful) as well as putting a down payment, but I'm not sure as to how much to keep up. Should $1000 down payment be good enough? I've heard putting at least 20-30% of the retail price should be fine. Also, how much do the initial fees amount to (documents, registration, etc.), more specifically in the state of Hawaii? And are there any hidden fees I should be aware of? So to summarize: How much should my first initial payment along with the fees cost? Thanks in advanced!

Open Question: studying abroad in Turkey. what would a 13 year old boy like as a gift?
I will be studying abroad in Turkey and I want to give my host family gifts. I will give my dad and brother shirts, and my mom and sister dresses. I will also be giving my sister (6 years old) necklaces because she likes them a lot according to the pictures I've seen of her. I just don't know what to give my brother, because I know a shirt won't be much of a gift. I hated receiving clothes as a kid. lol. he's really into basketball, but I don't know what basketball players like. I arrive from hawaii (if that changes anything).

Open Question: Can someone answer my Pahu drum question?
I’m doing research for a book I’m writing and I’m at a scene where a guy is playing guitar and someone is playing drums for accompaniment but I’m not sure what type of drum I’d like to use. I’d adore to use something that’s specific to Hawaii but polynesian will work too. The tune is a slow tune, meant to be a serenade actually so I’m wondering if a Pahu drum is appropriate for this or is that disrespectful? I’m not inflexible, I will use any nice of drum someone thinks is appropriate for this situation, but the image I have in my mind is of someone lightly playing the drums with their hands. The setting is gift day btw. It would enhance the tune, and the moment a lot. Thanks for any suggestions.

Open Question: what to do about sister? mad!!!?
ive resisted posting about my older sister for a few years now, but what she's doing is absolutely mad and just wanted opinions. 10 years ago, her and her partner, who is 15 years older than her, moved to hawaii. it was his dream and he had built the home himself over some years, and sold his home in california, the home he grew up in, in order to make the move. he'd only been with my sister for about 2 years, but he asked her to marry him and join him in this 'dream.' she was keen. she moved there. then after a few weeks, she started to moan about this and that. first, the locals didnt like her, then, the weather (in hawaii???), complianed about the rain. then it was the isolation, then her co workers didnt like her (she had gotten a good job as well), she quit her job. next thing i hear, she's dumped the two dogs she and her hubby had bought as puppies after they arrived in hawaii onto some neighbours, and took off back to the mainland, but not california. north carolina, where she lined up another job. she left her husband to sell his dream home and arrive follow her. i thought he'd tell her where to go, but hey, its adore right, and he trashed his dream for her. he sold the home, then he had to have the car shipped to the mainland, and steer it alone himself to her in NC. he works as a self employed plumber, so every time he moves states he has to go through some new check and pay another licence fee, which is costly. anyway, they lasted a few months in north carolina. then they moved to biloxi. my sister had quit the job in NC and found another in biloxi. so she dragged him there. then a few months later that went t*ts up. they moved back to california, where she'd found another job. then, a few months later, she packed them up and moved to arizona, where her pal from high school lived. that lasted another few months. now she says she doesnt like arizona and cant find a job, and the latest news is that they are on their way to wyoming. couple that with the fact my sister has turned into this massive jesus freak, when i talk to her she sounds borderline insane with every the praying this and praying that... i am concerned for my mom, who is 82, and already gets enough grief off my other sister who lives with her because she dont feel like working (other sis was never married). what do you make of this? i cannot receive my head around this, its mad, thank god she doesnt have kids and is dragging them around like this...! crikey i knew my family was mad but this takes the cake... whats gonna happen after wyoming? is this a state by state thing? is she crossing out states on a giant map in her lounge? and what happens when she runs out of states??? this isnt a joke, i wish it was, but you couldnt make it up. person who explains this the best will receive best answer. blackcat, i never said i was going to receive involved in this, i merely am asking what other people think cos i think its mad, end of.

Open Question: Parent custody problems?
well I've always had a complicated relationship with my mom, sort of a adore-hate relationship. Shes never liked me even when i was a child. She's threatened many times to give up custody of me, She's called the police on me twice for stupid things like i wouldn't hear to her or something.i'm pretty sure she just keeps me around for the welfare, taxes, and food stamps she gets from me.even though she's always been more like a pal then a mom to me i can't say i hate her. recently my dad got a job offer in Hawaii, and i really really want to go. i have lived in new york every my life and im ready for a fresh start. Also i adore the beach and i think it would be a great chance. i could look my mom in the summer and my dad said he'll send her a ticket once a year to visit us their. my dad said that whenever we're off from school he would send us over to her.I thought she would agree i mean she dosent even like me! As soon as i told her she freaked out and said i cant go anywhere until finish high school. she dosent even care about my education she's never even once asked for my report card. i really want to go but she's stopping me what should i do?p

Open Question: Is a bird or a cat better for me?
I have owned two cats in the past, but we had to give them up due to a move. I know that's a common excuse, but we moved by car, and they would not like being stuck in a cat carrier for three weeks. I have taken care of two parrots for a month for my pal Andrea, who was in Hawaii for her sister's wedding (they had to help with the prep), and once handled the Red Factor Canaries at a nearby bird store. Oh, and this store is a tiny, family-run business, so they do let you do this from time to time. That's it for experience. I wanted a canary, cockatiel, or possibly parakeet if I got a bird. I wanted a Siamese or Tabby (Like we used to have), but only from a shelter. I have the money for either, noise isn't an issue, we have a good vet for either nearby, and we have considered odor a vague issue, but the cat's litter box would be in the basement. It is warm enough down there, by the way. I'm confused, because either would work. I can't receive both, idiot.

Open Question: Should I follow through with plans to move out of the US?
I am a United States Citizen deeply contemplating a move to a country in the Caribbean. I am well traveled having grown up an Army brat. I've lived in Panama, Germany, Texas, Oklahoma, and Hawaii. I currently live in up North,US. While I have many reasons for wanting to move out of the United States, I am mostly very weary of what is happening in this country as it relates to race relations, the economy and the lack of social life an average working class American can afford. I visited the Caribbean in 2007, and stayed with a close pal for a month. I was the happiest I could ever remember being. I visited a new place everyday and marveled at the music, the culture, the life. Don't receive me wrong, there were black outs, where the electricity would close off for no apparent reason, occasional political protest, no wash machines or dryers ( laundry was done by hand) the people work extremely difficult, but they also giggle, and sing, and spend time with family, and explore their countries beautiful terrain. And while, visiting and living are two different things, I have never felt more sure, that I am ready to leave the US permanently at least for 1-3 years, maybe longer if fate would have it. I have already begun updating My CV and sending it out to prospective employers. My question is, am I disillusioned, to believe that life abroad will be simpler and more contented then it is in the US? I am not afraid of working difficult, and I know that adapting will be overwhelming. But I am just not glad in America any longer. Everyone seems to think I'm crazy when I tell them that I am moving out of the country, but it is something I think is right for me at this time. I want to experience life outside of the politics, the daily rat-race, even if it means a "lower quality of living"--and of course only by American Standards.

Open Question: Would I be able to be a model? Or is it impossible for me?
I am 15 years old, 16 in November and I am 120 pounds, mostly muscle weight because I run A LOT with cross country and I am planning to run a marathon in Dec. I have a difficult time losing these tiny amounts of weight my body gains because it uses the food I eat so efficiently so when I am not in running season I can gain up to 5 pounds or more! I was wondering if becoming a vegetarian might work and how exactly I would go about that. I live in Hawaii so it could be difficult to receive discovered here. I was just wondering how others got over these issues, since I am not a bombshell naturally with my round nose, but I have the model features. Do they accept less than perfect models? Or is there no other option than plastic surgery? And yes, I want to be a model. Thanks for your help!

Resolved Question: Is it ok to have the dog in the kennel in the shade with water for 1 1/2 hours?
We're attending a homecoming for a military boat at the pier, and the dog is welcome to that, but then we're supposed to stay for the picnic part of it, during which they've asked that no animals be gift. If the kennel is in the shade, with plenty of water, does anyone feel this would be cruel? (BTW we live in Hawaii - low to mid 80s with a good breeze...) We don't have AC in the home... so leaving her in the kennel in the AC isn't happening wherever she is. Thanks everyone. Yes - we'll be about 100 yards from her. We just can't have her by our sides during the meal. We have to stay for about an hour, but we always bring her with us to the pier to meet the boat. This is a odd situation having to keep her there without having her next to us. Thank you every. Purebred Black Lab - 2 years old. It's not a ceremony - it's meeting my husband after deployment and it's what we've always done. This is the first time, however that they're requesting he stay for the hour after for a "handshaking" since their new command will be there. I spoke with my vet, and he said it should be fine as long as the time was limited and we were able to look her. Thanks everyone - I was looking for opinions, and you've provided them!

Open Question: What do you think of my story about the Jonas Brothers?
“I’m so hungry, man,” Kevin groaned. “Nick, go receive me some food.” Nick stared at him in disbelief. “Go receive it yourself dude,” he said. “JOE!” Kevin yelled to his brother in the other room. “FOOD. NOW.” “No! You’re so lazy!” Joe shouted back. Kevin rolled his eyes. His brothers wouldn’t receive him any food and he was the lazy one? Kevin drowsily made his way to the kitchen and looked around the room. Everything was new to him. His cook had always made food for him, but he was on vacation in Hawaii right then. Kevin walked up to a big box with two handles. He had once heard his cook call it a ‘refrigerator’. “Oh mystical refrigerator,” Kevin said, bowing to the metal box, “make me a turkey and cheese sandwich with just a little mayo. Thank you.” He waited a moment but nothing happened. “You’re a jerk,” he muttered to the refrigerator. Suddenly, he had a brilliant idea. He would make a salad. There were plenty of leaves in his yard and it wouldn’t be difficult to gather a few. He grabbed a bowl from the cupboard and went to the front door. “I’ll be in the yard,” he told Nick and Joe. They stared at him, demanding an explanation. “I’m making a salad.” Kevin held up the bowl. "Kevin, your an idiot," said Joe, grabbing the bowl and spilling out the few leaves Kevin had collected from the nearby bushes. "WHAT?!" cried Kevin. "You can't take leaves from our yard, you have to receive them from the rainforest. Salad is made from a rare leaf called the "lettuce", which only grows at an altitude of 647 feet in the South African country of Chile," said Joe. "Don't you mean South America?" asked Nick. "NO, IT'S SOUTH AFRICA!" yelled an enraged Joe. "JUST GO receive OUR JET AND TAKE US TO CHILE!" "FINE," said Nick, who stormed off to find the private jet. He knew it was somewhere, he just couldn't look past the giant shiny metal bird in the driveway. "IT'S RIGHT THERE YOU IDIOT!" said Joe, walking up beside Nick and pointing to the metal bird, apparently an airplane, with his baggage. "Oh, alright, thanks. You always were the smart one Joe," he said, and climbed inside, followed by Joe. Since they had forgotten to hire a pilot for their jet, Nick decided that he could just fly. After every, he was the only one who had managed to receive a driver's license, and only because he charmed the young lady who was testing him into passing him with boyish charm and good looks. If he could steer, surely flying was not too much harder? Nick settled into the pilot's seat, looking over the array of buttons and knobs. Just then, Kevin walked in, dragging a big suitcase and carrying a toaster below his left arm. "Why do you have the My Little Pony heated barn with you Kevin? I thought you wouldn't play My Little Pony with me because it was too uncool compared to your Littlest Petshop?" asked Nick. "I've told you a hundred times, Nick, it's a toaster, used to toast various foods," said Joe as Kevin pulled out the remains of plastic pony that had accidentally been toasted. This isn't every of it, but I didn't want to post too much. What do you think so far?

I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord and how good he is, and I didn't notice that the light had changed. It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn't honked, I'd never have noticed. I found that lots of people adore Jesus! While I was sitting there, the guy behind started honking like crazy, and then he leaned out of his window and screamed, 'For the adore of God!' 'Go! Go! Go! Jesus Christ, GO!' What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus! Everyone started honking! I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at every those loving people. I even honked my horn a few times to share in the adore! There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about a sunny beach. I saw another guy waving in a silly way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air. I asked my young teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant. He said it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or something. Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii , so I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign right back. My grandson burst out laughing. Why even he was enjoying this religious experience!! A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me. I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed. So, grinning, I waved at every my brothers and sisters, and drove on through the intersection. I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and felt nice of unhappy that I had to leave them after every the adore we had shared. So I slowed the car down, leaned out the window and gave them every the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!! Will write again soon, adore, Grandma

Open Question: Why would the DOJ stall the implementation of the MOVE act for military voting?
excerpt... The Department of Justice is ignoring a new law aimed at protecting the right of American soldiers to vote, according to two former DOJ attorneys who say states are being encouraged to use waivers to bypass the new federal Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act. The MOVE Act, enacted last October, ensures that servicemen and women serving overseas have ample time to receive in their absentee ballots. The result of the DOJ's alleged inaction in enforcing the act, say Eric Eversole and J. Christian Adams — both former litigation attorneys for the DOJ's Voting Section — could be that thousands of soldiers' ballots will arrive too tardy to be counted. "It is an absolute shame that the section appears to be spending more time finding ways to avoid the MOVE Act, rather than finding ways to ensure that military voters will have their votes counted," said Eversole, director of the Military Voter Protection Project, a new organization devoted to ensuring military voting rights. "The Voting Section seems to have forgotten that it has an obligation to enforce federal law, not to find and lift arguments for states to avoid these laws." Cornyn wrote, “If these are the positions of the DOJ, then they fly in the face of the clear statutory language, undermine the provisions in question, and jeopardize the voting rights of our men and women in uniform.” He said the language of the law makes it clear that there is no ambiguity when it comes to states' eligibility for being granted a waiver, and that the statute does not leave room for the Justice Department to decide whether to enforce its requirements. “If a state is not in compliance with the statute, there is little room for “dialogue” or negotiation, and the Voting Section should take immediate steps to enforce the law and safeguard military and overseas voting rights, including pursuing litigation whenever necessary,” Cornyn wrote. “The comments by the DOJ official, as reported in the NASS minutes, appear to ignore Congress’ clear legislative language and could facilitate the disenfranchisement of our men and women in uniform.” Cornyn, who discussed Eversole’s allegations at a meeting with Defense Department officials last week, called for Holder to immediately provide guidelines to state election officials; to ensure that states are required to abide by the law; and to provide Cornyn himself with a state-by-state breakdown of which states have already applied for waivers and which are expected to be in noncompliance with MOVE in the November midterm election. He also called for full transparency in the waiver process. A spokeswoman for the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division, Xochitl Hinojosa, declined to comment, other than to say Cornyn’s letter is being reviewed. FoxNews.com obtained waiver applications submitted by Washington and Hawaii. Defense Department spokeswoman Major April Cunningham told FoxNews.com that New York, Delaware, Maryland, Alaska and Virgin Islands had also applied for waivers. (Cornyn's co-sponsor for the MOVE Act was New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, a Democrat.) "every waivers are currently below review. The Defense Department must respond, below the law, after consultation with the Department of Justice, no later than 65 days before the election, which is August 29, 2010," said Robert Carey, director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program. “The voting section has taken this haphazard approach to enforcing military voting law,” said Eversole. “The voting section is asserting itself into statute to make a statute that’s not ambiguous, ambiguous. Can you imagine any other agency giving prospective defendants advice like this?” “Everybody in Washington knows it doesn’t matter how good the law is; it comes down to who’s enforcing it,” said Adams. “This stuff should be transparent and online for the citizens of these states to comment on, the fact that it's being done behind closed doors tells you everything you need to know about how it will affect the voters.” Adams and Eversole separately pointed out that the DOJ’s website lacks any mention of the MOVE Act. In fact, the section on military voting includes the outdated and nonbinding 30-day recommendation for sending out ballots. There is no mention of the the current 45-day mandate. But the DOJ's online voting section includes a detailed section devoted to helping felons learn how receive their voting rights back. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/07/28/exclusive-doj-stalls-voter-registration-law-military/

Open Question: Have you ever taken a toddler on a long flight?
We might be going to Hawaii next year, right after my son turns 3. I looked it up, and it looks like it would be 8 hours of flying or so. I've never flown past a couple hours, and I don't really care for flying, so that will be a new experience for me, but I am also wondering how it would be for a toddler. He has never flown before and hasn't even been on a long car ride. I was thinking maybe if we schedule the flight for the time he normally goes to bed it will help the time pass for him. Have you taken your baby/toddler on a long flight and how was it? Any suggestions to make it easier? Thanks for any helpful feedback! I think I will definitely do the DVD player. He has some favorite shows at the moment and I think he would like watching them. It's difficult to imagine how he will change in a year though - he just turned 2 on May 3rd. I guess he will be talking more...he says a lot of words now and is putting sentences together, but gets frustrated as many 2 year olds do.

Resolved Question: You Have Been Awarded an NHL Franchise?
If you answered the other one, it's not exactly like that one. You have been awarded a franchise in the National Hockey League, answer these questions: 1) Where (in North America) would you put it? (Alaska & Hawaii are allowed) 2) What would you name it? 3) What would be the name of the arena? 4) What would be the team colors? 5) Would you have a 3rd jersey? 6) Who would be your goalie? (No Luongo or Brodeur) 7) Out of any AHL team, who would be your affiliate? 8) Who would be your team captain? 9) Who would be your franchise player (He can be the same as your captain or goalie) I was gonna change the word order but I couldn't think of anything. ok to the leafs fan at the bottom- i said no Brodeur- WHAT WAS I THINKING? should have said no Miller either- also- where's Jaroslav Halak?
